Danehill 2-10 Ardingly II
Following the departure of several key players a make
shift team was
not enough to excuse an extremely dissapointing result for the first
team, against a side we had given a close run a week earlier. The
scoring began when an Ardingly II striker was again left unmarked on
a
corner to put Ardingly into the lead. A disastrous 15 minutes followed
and we soon found ourselves four down as the offside trap was exploited
by some intelligent forward running. Going forward there were positive
signs in the first half and several chances were created, but it became
clear that players all over the pitch will have to be more committed
defensively if we are to compete in this division over the coming
months. A rare strike from outside the box from Andrew Usher was not
enough to halt the tide of Ardingly II pressure and the first half
trends continued with a stream of goals in the second half as heads
started to drop. A late run and shot from 'Arnie' which was followed
up
well by Blake Alford allowed us to gain a second goal. Looking forward
it will be important for all of us to produce a response to this setback
and work for each other as part of a unit with an emphasis on teamwork
in order to bounce back quickly.
Danehill II 0-2 Village of Ditchling III
On a more positive note our second team were unlucky
to come away with
nothing from a hard fought game where for the majority of proceedings
they more than matched Ditchling III. Following a tight opening 20
minutes an unfortunate goal keeping error saw Ditchling III take the
lead. For the remainder of the game Danehill II produced a stirring
display continuing to work hard and pass the ball with intent drawing
several saves from the Ditchling III Goalkeeper and came closest to
scoring when a fine run and cross from 'Oggy' was turned onto the poat
by Luke Brystead. The pressure eventually amounted to nothing as towards
the end of the game a quick break led to Ditchling's second goal as
Danehill II tried to push forward in search of the equaliser. Though
on
the day the result did not go our way there is no doubt that if we
continue to play with that level of commitment and performance that
more
positive results will follow.
